DECEMBER 3, 2016 - DOWNTOWN MADISON, WI

FAQ's

WHY SHOULD I DO THIS RUN?
This is a charity event that helps
children and families in our community. Need more? The event is fun, exciting and something that you can brag about to your friends and family. Where else can you enjoy a tropical beach party in the middle of December?

DO I HAVE TO WEAR A SWIMSUIT?

The swimsuit is what makes this event unique (and fun).  You are not required to wear a swimsuit but you will look really strange when everyone else is wearing one.  A festive costume or a t-shirt with a body in a swimsuit printed on it works too. Seriuosly though, wear whatever you want but have fun doing it.

WHAT KIND OF PERSON PARTICIPATES IN THIS RUN?

This event is similar to the Polar Plunge, the participants are unique individuals that will go to any extreme to help a good cause.  This event is open to men and women who are fun and don't give a crap what others think!

IS THERE A LIMIT ON HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN REGISTER?

Madison is a very giving, fun and runner-friendly city so we always sell out.  We can only allow 400 participants to register but we do start a waiting list once we reach 400.

ARE THERE OTHER EVENTS LIKE THIS?

There are several Santa Speedo Runs, below are a few of them.
12th Annual Boston Santa Speedo Run
8th Annual Santa Monica Holiday Speedo Run
7th Annual Toronto Santa Speedo Run

4th Annual Annapolis Santa Speedo Run

3rd Annual San Francisco Santa Skivvies Run

2nd Annual Chicago Santa Speedo Run

2nd Annual Tampa Bay Santa Speedo Run
1st Annual Portland Santa Speedo Run

There's even one in Budapest, Hungary

I DO NOT CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS, CAN I STILL PARTICIPATE?

This event is non-denominational and open to all adults (Santa is a fictitious character). The goal is to help the charity and have fun. If you really don't want to wear the Santa hat, we understand but we would still love to see some creative costumes.

ARE UNDERWEAR ACCEPTABLE?

Anything that would pass as a swimsuit, is not see-through, covers your jingle bells and can be worn around children is acceptable. We would like to maintain a good relationship with the community, so please keep it PG(ish).

WILL THE EVENT BE CANCELLED IF IT’S TOO COLD OR SNOWING?

This event is intended to be held in inclement weather which only adds to the “brave factor” of doing the run.  You are only running 1 mile so most weather should not be a hazard.  In 2013, the wind chill temperature was minus 10 degrees and all of the runners ran more laps than they needed. The average daytime temperature on race day is 36 degrees.  However, we will use the NOAA guidelines for frostbite exposure (see below) and if the temperature is close to dangerous for
skin exposure, we will keep the party going inside instead.
